Ben and Mike launched gnoos today, the Aussie blog search engine. Now I don't want to ruin the boys' launch day, but, new media link-baiting bitch that I am, I have to say that I think it's results are dodgy.
As of the time I write this, it says the top searches today are:
Top Searches Today:
Okay, now "sex" and "afl" I can accept. I'll even accept "church". But "grapefruit"??? Now I sat here and searched on the term "Cameron Reilly is a god amongst insects" about 100 times and that isn't showing up at all.
In addition, their section called "Latest Updates: Aussie blogs" has shown many of the same posts all day. None of my posts have appeared in there (yeah - it's all about me, I know, I've got a shrink already, thanks).
Whaddya think?
Haven't you heard? Grapefruits are in, man!

Perhaps there is a little lag on the results in the gnoos engine. Check out what I found. :)

Grapefruit seems to be making a come back though! Go Grapefruit! Go!

It's a sad state of affairs when Pascals mention of "Go Grapefruit! Go!" has me remembering the Simpsons episode where Millhouse races bart down the school bus isle with a Grapefruit only for it to end up under the brake pedal.
Could the Grapefruit be putting the stops on gnoos too? I wonder if the top search terms get doubly counted everytime people click on them and people keep clicking grapefruit to find out why people are searching for grapefruit! Also the results I've found aren't updated very often or seem to be tracking very many blogs. I have more in my locals feed folder that are updated! I do have to say that after reading the Sydney Morning Herald article I wonder if there's more to the 'Latest Updates' than simply the latest... are they filtering that list for the best recent updates? Beats me. As the articles mentions, if it was really scouring places like MSN Spaces and blogger for aussie blogs I'm sure there would be truckloads more updates. I've also found a group of posts that some 'entrepenuer' has already been tag spamming(stagging?) and voting for himself, will be interesting to watch.

I saw "gnoos sucks" as the top term then Andrew did a couple of searches and "Black Cab" made it to #3 followed by "Where is the business model".
I'd say the SQL needs a small tweak.
