Wouldn't it be great if there was a cool fold-up, single-ear, USB mic/headset with a retractable cable that you could carry around in your laptop bag for those in-cafe Skype calls you need to make in-between meetings? Something that you could pull out in a second but wouldn't take up too much bag space and it wouldn't take you five minutes to un-knot the cord each time you wanted to use it? I've spent an hour looking for something like that on Ebay tonight but found nada. Fortunately, while I'm searching, I'm also watching Joss Whedon's Sydney Q&A from the Serenity launch which is on the bonus DVD. Damn, this guy is the one of the coolest nerd filmmakers I've ever seen deliver a Q&A. When I first saw Serenity in NYC last October, before I'd seen Firefly, I liked it but didn't get the hype. Now that I've seen Firefly, I enjoyed it MUCH better the second time around. Brilliantine.
As for the skype head set, I brought a standard bluetooth headset, and a blue tooth usb dongle thingy, and while I'm at home, i use the head set for skype and streaming music or podcasts to my head whether I'm at the sink doing the washing up, or sittig on the couch, but while I'm out it my hands free for my mobile. I have not had an issue with sound quality.

Wade, call me on Skype sometime so I can hear the quality. I've tried a BT headset before and not only did the quality suck, but if you're living in cafes all day, the last thing you want to do is have BT sucking up your battery life. Cafes with power points next to tables are still a rarity.

Ah, something we CAN agree on. Firefly is sensational. Absolutely criminal that the nixed it. Did you Joss is a third generation TV writer? Probably the only one in the world.

i don't think this is a rumour but the rights to make it have been brought off fox, so you never know.
on a side note, since i started listening to podcasts it has taken about 5gb of my hard disk space.

I got the Retractable Cables Travel Pack #3 from TigerDirect.com for $20 (US) with a $10 rebate. I'm not a big fan of the kind of headphones you stick IN your ear, but they have worked great for Skype.
