In this Computerworld article today we have a great example of "not getting it":
Frost & Sullivan security analyst, James Turner, said ...
"Blogging is the classic example of needing security policies and employment contracts stating specifically what an employee is entitled to do - and unless you are a spokesperson for the company you have no business writing a blog," Turner said.
Spoken like a true security guy. While we're at it, let's stop selling our product as well. Who knows what people might do with it?
We're ALL spokespeople for our company James. Every time I talk about what I do for a job to my wife, my neighbour, my friends... I'm representing my company. The correct approach is for companies to find ways to teach their people to be better spokespeople, not stopping them from speaking. Education and empowerment is required - not gagging.
you forgot to mention that i was quoted in the article too.
