Wayne Hulbert and Tyme both think podcasts shouldn't sound like radio. I agree. While I think there is a lot of work we need to do on having consistent production and content quality, I don't envision many TPN shows sounding "just like radio". We have an opportunity to re-imagine what audio programming sounds like. The shows I enjoy the most sound like a couple of people engaged in a vibrant discussion. I don't care too much about the overall quality of the audio or the slickness of the production. It's listening to genuine human conversation that interests me. There's the key word - genuine. If you can make your show genuine, I think that's what will set podcasting apart from radio. Keep it a bullshit free zone.
We need a new button which says "THIS PODCAST IS A BFZ".
Dunno Cam,
I see your point but I feel that a bit more polish is inevitable and warranted in podcasting.
Personally I like the polished nature of radio, but find that most of it is a bit formulaic (is that how you spell it?)
What I suspect will happen is that 3 years from now we'll all look back on these days as the halcyon days of PC, same as I do when I look back on my days at OVEN Digital as the glory days of web development and we'll wonder "Geez did we REALLY go live with that?"

hey Rob I don't disagree that we need to get better at lots of things. I'm just saying I hope we can do that without becoming too slick and predictable. The web may be more sophisticated in terms of design and tools now than it was ten years ago, but it is still delivering information in a way that was not possible pre-94. I'm not talking about new kinds of technology here, I mean new kinds of conversation being possible ENABLED by technology.

Fair point Cam, I don't disagree with you and nor am I saying that what TPN is doing now is unprofessional in any way shape or form.
Just wanted to make the point that inevitably what TPN does, and podcasts in general, will evolve. Especially as profits begin to drive content and battle for market share. =8)
