With all of the overt positive coverage in the mainstream press in the last few weeks (providing them with much needed "filler" so they can continue to avoid subjects like "gee what are we going to do about Iraq?" and "gee what are we going to do about those lying scumbags who told us Saddam had WMD??"), it needs to be said that the last Pope did some very questionable things and, despite his canny use of the press and modern transport, he made sure Catholocism pretty much avoided the major issues people had to deal with during the late 20th & early 21st century. Kuro5hin has a good introduction to the good and the bad of the reign of JPII.
"Let he that has not sinned throw the first stone!". Words of a great man!
I bet JP2 wouldn't have thown a stone, nor can I.

PS. I hope people don't pull my life apart like this when I die, I am going to have enough trouble with St Peter!

nah, we aren't going to wait until you die Molly. We're starting next week. Didn't you get the invite? :-)
But hey, if you ever end up telling 1 billion people what they are and aren't allowed to do, then you might be opening yourself up to a little analysis, yeah.

Some could argue, as long as you practice what you preach its okay, wouldn't you say? :) (First stone.... yadda, yadda)

some would say that evil practices what it preaches and that doesn't excuse it at all.
And some would say that preaching intolerance toward those who would engage in premaritial sex and then practice the coddling and protection of those who would molest their alterboys makes the last pope ineligible for protection under your clause, Molly.
