I got one thing out of the Oscar's - watching the reel of Lumet's films, I realized how many of his films I haven't seen! I've seen many of them - Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, Family Business, 12 Angry Men, The Verdict, Equus, Network, Murder On The Orient Express... but there are many I haven't seen.
How cool would it be if I could get all excited about watching Lumet films like this and then just kind of... browse over to some directory on my Media Centre and download them all to watch this week?
I think that concept should be declared WAY COOL and mandated as an international standard...
I'd even *pay* for that (much as I do when I hire a VHS tape or DVD now).
Once it was this easy to get, who'd *bother* to pirate anything anymore - especially if the usage charges (whether via DRM or even an honesty-box system) were reflective of the real costs of production, storage, maintenance and distribution.
The best thing Hollywood could do at this juncture would be to dive in boots-and-all and massively sponsor huge Internet backbone bandwidth enhancements.
Get with the program, Senator Disney....

Yep, me again...
This would also be the ideal thing for public resources such as the New Zealand National Film Archive... imagine being able to access historical films, slide shows, what-have-you from any local Library or School!
I see there are some videos already available, but I'm thinking more in terms of the entire catalog on demand!

Man, speaking of Lumet, you *must* see Fail-Safe - if you were a kid in the Cold War era, this will have you in a cold sweat by the end.
Warnings: Do NOT take laxatives before viewing, and watch for a very young J.R. :)
PS: I really think this BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE..................

Antidote?
Kubrick this time: Sellers at his best...
Dr. Strangelove...
Laxative warning still applies though - but for very different reasons...
