Everyone who's asked me "why did you get into podcasting" gets the same answer - "so one day I might get to interview Lou Reed". Every interview I do with people from NYC, I ask the same question - "do you happen to know Lou?"
And today I might be a little closer. I got a comment on my recent post about Lou's 2005 Europe tour from "the phantom menace" pointing me to the official press release site for the tour (with some great new photos) and then I got this email:
Hi CameronAs the Phantom Menace pointed out on your blog site, this is where Soundgenerator got the news story about the Lou Reed 2005 European Tour Dates - http://www.noblepr.co.uk/Press_Releases/sanctuary_records /lou_reed.htm. We handle the publicity for Lou Reed and Sanctuary Records in the UK I'll ask Lou's people in NYC if there are plans for Australian dates in 2005.We'll stick you on our music mailing list.BestPeter NobleLondon, England"...I'm gonna punch her face in."- Charly's Girl
I love the Lou lyric at the end! I know some of you out there (JK!!) will know what a kick I'm getting out of this. Someone asked me recently "if you were on a desert island and you could only take 5 cds, what would they be?" My answer was "Transformer, Berlin, The Blue Mask, New York & Ecstacy". My five favourite Lou albums (right now... hard to pick just five... damn, I left out Rock and Roll Animal!! Arrgh. Need that in there.) Lou's lyrics and music have been the soundtrack to my adult life.
If you get to interview Lou I'm going to hate you. A lot.
