Three cheers for Stan!
A federal judge in Manhattan ruled that Mr. Lee is entitled to 10 percent of the profits from Marvel Enterprises' film and television productions and from some of its spin-off merchandise that use his characters.
Apparently the story goes like this...
- Marvel signed an agreement with Stan in November 1998 promising him 10 percent of "the profits of any live action or animation television or movie" using the Marvel characters that he helped create
- In May 2002, the first Spidey film did more than $800 million worldwide
- The second Spider-Man movie, released in 2004, had worldwide ticket sales of almost $800 million
Stan's not exactly been on Skid Row during this time though...
According to the ruling, Mr. Lee has not been penniless during the court struggle. Since November 2002 Marvel has been paying him a salary of $1 million a year so long as he does 15 hours a week work for the company.
I would like stan's email address or contact info need your help I can do it but curretly my health is keeping me from researching myself, thanks for your help!
