Steve Rubel points out Heineken has jumped on board the latest and the greatest new media channel - the podcast. A podcast is a lo-fi MP3 file created on a computer (or with any audio - video will soon follow - recording device for that matter) that can be subscribed to using RSS and easily and automatically transferred to your iPod or any other MP3 device. For its first podcast (to the right of the site), Heineken interviews Thirst Resident DJ Daniele Davoli.

This is an interesting way for a large company to participate in podcasting, hosting their own interview show. I've been wondering about what kind of podcasts I'd like to hear from the companies whose products and services I consume. And here's the thing - I don't want to be advertised to. If you try to sell me, I'll turn you off. I want information. Relevant and timely information wrapped up in an intelligent and entertaining format.
Some examples:
- a weekly 15 minute podcast from Bill Gates on the most interesting thing he's seen this week
- an hour long chat between a good music historian and the artists I most admire about their careers to date
- an hour long interview between Peter Bogdanovich and any contemporary Hollywood director
