Tim Berners-Lee comes out on Net Neutrality
"When I invented the Web....."
Isn't that the best frakkin opening line to a blog post EVAH? Come on. If you can come up with a better opening blog post, I'll put $5 into your paypal account.
TimBL talks about why NN is good, as you would expect, but he closes with this statement:
I hope that Congress can protect net neutrality, so I can continue to innovate in the internet space.
Did I miss something? Didn't Congress vote against it? Aren't we know relying on the Senate to save the net? US politics confuses the hell outta me. And I thought watching West Wing was going to make it all crystal. Ah, if only I had Leo here to help me grok the whole situation...

The House and the Senate are collectively referred to as Congress. The House passed an anti-Neutrality bill. The Senate has yet to vote on any similar bill and the two parts of Congress must both pass the bill before it can be said that Congress has passed it.
It is the same deal here in Australia. The House of Representatives and the Senate are collectively called Parliament.

Avocadia has it right Cam, unless Congress as a whole votes for a change or the FCC changes it's operating rules the existing statues are in place and haven't changed. Any change at the FCC would be followed by a long drawn out court case, so Congress is the more likely venue.
