I did this phone interview recently with Anna Salleh from ABC Science Online about the panel we did at BlogOn. Finally - an interview I can point to online!
And, you'll see, I can still say nice things about Microsoft's blogging strategy. I've got a galley copy of Scoble and Shel's book "
Naked Conversations" and it's got a two-page interview with me talking about why I left MS, the whole blogging controversy. I think Microsoft's complete hands-off policy has its benefits but also has danger zones. It's important other companies who are considering allowing blogging don't make the same mistakes.
I've read the book and I think the boys have done a sensational job. This should be a huge hit. Every marketing and PR exec in the world needs to read it, even if they aren't going to be blogging or podcasting directly.
My only gripe about the book is that TPN doesn't get a mention in the podcasting section. Just like in Geoghegan's book! How can we not even rate a mention?! The first podcating business and these guys don't even think we deserve a mention. It pisses me off no end. I have no problem at all with Curry, Winder, Kaye, etc getting the lion's share of the coverage, but for us to not even get a MENTION? Geoghegan doesn't even have us listed in the back of the book under "podcasting networks"! I'm starting to think it's a deliberate conspiracy to keep the Aussies out of the game.
This is war.
Time to write your own book.. you know in all that spare time you have... ;-)
I agree about the books and even some of the bigger online areas completely missing the point that there is more than just American's doing this. It annnoys me no end when you listen to some of the bigger podcasts out there that wholely and solely promote other American podcasts. I keep thinking "boys club"... but maybe I am just a bit sensitive to the whole "America is number 1" thing.
Podcasting, it world wide, not just USA-centric. The books, the podcasts and the interviews should reflect that.
I hope you had words with Michael about his book when you where in NY.
We Aussie podcasters produce better content pre-head-of-podcasters than any where in the world.. and we deserve our props for it!

I agree with Mr Moyle :P about America. They are USA-centric and always will be. I loved Cam's quote during BlogOn about God inventing war so Americans can learn geography. It is so true though. I remember back when I was first getting online and chatting with people overseas, i would be playing online golf with people from usa, england, finland and france at times, but the same thing came up when talking to non-americans is that some of the stuff people from USA would ask you were just plain ridiculous.
They have pre-concieved idea about what happens in the rest of the world but you would think that any "civilised" country would teach it's people about the outside world better than the USA does.
I know Richard Giles has been writing a book about podcasting, or maybe finished it already, and I am sure TPN will get some coverage in there. Maybe it's a case of sending promos to a few other podcasts to promote TPN and maybee (Cool) Shite. Curry could promote TPN and TPN could promote Podshow and Curry does love getting promos.
We do produce some good podcasting content which I probably don't listen to enough of. I do have (Cool) Shite and half a dozen TPN shows but not sure what else I have in my subscription list.

Good luck getting Curry to promote anything Aussie, unless we start speaking something other than english (he seems to like playing non-english promos).

Well of course, they forget. And now guess how "we feel" as in Europeans and other countries not even speaking English. But it makes me wonder the reason why TPN in this sense was not included and I suspect, that they wanted to cover the more indie podcaster thing than the more network site?
After all, I think Robert reads both yours and Mick's blog.
On the international aspect, I did an interview with Shel and Robert which I will publish as part of the pre conf podcast for Lesblogs and they said, they did cover international.
From what Americans normally do, this sounded quite covering the world. :))

Curry is going down hill IMHO. On the Aussie podcasts, you guys should think about working together to provide a stronger front! Have you heard the numbers Curry is putting on?
