Microsoft responds to Katrina

Kudos to Microsoft. Their homepage has a major graphic, front and centre, pointing people to sites which help victims of Katrina. Google and Yahoo have nothing yet. I smell Scoble.

It shows that MS is still smart at following other people's ideas - wasn't it Apple who first did this after the tsunami in the Indian Ocean?

I hate seeing short minded people do the "following the idea" thing. The great thing is that Microsoft is actually doing it - somehow that's ignored by people who're just looking for sensational stats rather than the groundwork that actually goes into it. Instead of saying "Apple was first", one outta go out and help!

You have been Scobleised Cam.

yeah Scoble smacked me on the wrist for paying MSFT the compliment, and I take his point, but I responded thus:

Robert, as Morrie says, I *was* paying Microsoft a compliment and I didn't mean it as a PR exercise.

I do spend a lot of time these days thinking about all of the negative things large American corporations are doing to the planet, but there are times like this when they can do a terrific amount of good. It's only fair to call it out.

I'm also proud to see Microsoft (corporation and employees) up at the front of the pack. I seem to recall in previous times MSFT didn't do this kind of thing quickly, so I guess something has changed for the better internally.

I take your point though.
