At 2.26pm yesterday, police shot dead a guy a few blocks from my house. I was home at the time. The victim was carrying a knife. Police claim they hit him with capsicum spray first but he remained a threat to them. He died "after receiving several gunshot wounds". Several??
Why don't Victorian Police have stun guns yet? I love this quote from The Age's coverage of the incident:
Fitzroy Legal Service solicitor Peter Noble said he was concerned that a general issue of stun guns to police would lead to their overuse and replace negotiation as a means of defusing hostile encounters.
Yeah, the negotiation tactic seems to be working a treat. "Lay down your weapon." "Bang".
